SCRUU 29er Rohloff

A frame intended for more demanding cyclists. It displays an innovative approach to advanced components, these being the rear multi-gear Rohloff hub and belt drive. The bike is ideal for cyclists who want to forget about chain problems and know the advantages of a belt. It is intended for everyone who can afford luxury workmanship and relatively more expensive bike fittings.

The frame construction utilises light, large-diameter double-butted tubes, which better resist the dynamic strain and offer the rider faster reaction and good handling due to their rigidity. The "Biaxial S-bend" seat stays are dimensioned in the direction of the impacts coming from bumps in the terrain, and their shape ensures slight springing and thus ride comfort. The right seat stay can be detached to allow the insertion of a belt, which is the transmission element (Gates Carbon System), in the frame. The belt is tensioned by an eccentric housed in the bottom bracket. Rotating the eccentric tensions the belt to the required value for optimum power transmission. Use of the Rohloff 500/14 multi-gear hub significantly reduces maintenance demands and offers the advantage of maximum functional reliability and long lifespan.

Duratec emphasises compact design and clean frame build with a minimum of brazed-ons for conventional fixing of Bowden cables. The Bowden cable for the rear brake is integrated into the space inside the top tube of the frame, which emphasises the clean lines of the version. During frame production we use precision components manufactured on CNC machines. The welds are ground by hand, and after painting they can hardly be seen at all.

The belt drive offers demanding users many advantages. The manufacturer of the complete system is the American firm Gates Carbon Drive, represented in the Czech Republic by the firm Pedalsport. The most commonly used transmission ratio is 46/20 combined with the 14 gear ratios contained in the Rohloff hub.  

Advantages of belt drive: 

  • a belt is far lighter than a chain; a belt weighs only 80g
  • the belt runs more quietly
  • you don't have to lubricate it, and there is no more time-consuming chain cleaning

The right seat stay can be detached to allow the insertion of a belt, which is the transmission element (Gates Carbon System), in the frame. The belt is tensioned by an eccentric housed in the bottom bracket.

A twist shifter (grip) is included in every original packaging of Rohloff SpeedHub 500/14. Because the indexing of the engaged gear ratio is ensured in the actual hub, the shifter doesn't need anything more than a scale showing which gear ratio is engaged. The shifter makes it possible to shift through all the gear ratios with a single twist. It is connected by gear shift cables to a gearbox fixed to the hub. The quick and easy removal of the rear wheel is performed by removing the gear box from the external transmission mechanism directly on the hub.
