Tandem, or a bike which two cyclists ride and pedal together. There are more or less two kinds of people who ride tandems: those who have completely fallen under the spell of tandem pedalling and have become aficionados and fans, and those for who it is the only means of movement and active sport as a result of their disability. In the second case a blind or otherwise disabled rider sits behind the front rider.
Building a tandem requires a highly individual approach, especially in its geometry and design. It requires the combination of two frame sizes so that the result suits both riders. Thanks to our custom production and our extensive experience of many years with tandems, Duratec, can design and fine tune frame geometry, manufacture the frame and assamble complete bikes to our customers satisfaction. Duratec tandem bikes are used by many national teams of disabled athletes around the world. Representatives of Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Ireland, Greece, Russia, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Spain and many other countries are the best references for our products. Duratec prides itself on building high quality tandems for very tallented riders.
Big Bang R9 is a road tandem intended for racing. This model is suitable for conventional road rim brakes. Large-diameter tubes made of 7020T6 aluminium alloy are used for construction of the frame. The large diameters of the tubes ensure the rigidity of the frame and effectively resists stress in the direction of torsion. Overall this is an extremely high quality frame in terms of strength and rigidity. One part of the frame is an eccentric bottom bracket located in the pedalling axis of the front rider which can be rotated to tension the chain between the two bottom brackets. For this model Duratec has developed and manufactured a wholly unique dual chainring, the fitting of which ensures that the chains are located only on the right side. If electronic gear shifting is selected, we adapt the frame so that it is possible to run the Shimano Di2 cabling inside the frame. The battery is integrated in the seatpost of the rear rider. You can find all the available variants and current prices below in the details or on the Configuration page.

DURATEC F02 front fork is made of 7005T6 aluminium alloy and has conical post 1-1/8“-1-1/2“, crown diameter 50 mm, weight 720 g. The fork is offered in many variants according to the individual disciplines and selected types of brakes. For example road for calliper brakes, road for disk brakes, track fork etc. The crown diameter seamlessly blends with the frame head, and the transition between these parts is compact. The fork is certified for tandem use.
Specially developed chainring for linking bottom brackets of both riders. Manufactured by CNC milling and suitable for Shimano and SRAM cranksets.
For greater comfort and better grip, we recommend adding Cane Creek Ergo Stoker Levers for the second rider.
Specially developed dual chainring for linking bottom brackets of both riders. Manufactured by CNC milling and suitable for Shimano and SRAM cranksets. We offer two sizes, 36-36 teeth and 39-39 teeth. Thanks to the dual chainring we can use the chain to link both bottom brackets on the right side. It is not necessary to have a linking chain on the left and driving unit on the right. The system has gained great popularity because a rider can use standard cranksets such as the Shimano Ultegra or SRAM.
The parts used for construction and manufacturing of frames including rear dropouts of the frame, derailleur hangers, chain grip, in-line cable adjusters and others are made in CNC milling centre. The advantage of this kind of machining is reaching a high precision of machined parts. This technology guarantees a high quality of the surface of machined parts, very clean cutting and a very neat “high-tech” design. Rear derailleur hanger is exchangeable. |
